Solheim Cup Day 1

A somewhat disappointing day for the Americans today at the Solheim Cup, ending the day two points down, with 3 points overall, while the Europeans ended with 5 points. Don’t get me wrong, Team USA played good golf, but it could have been a lot better. Look at Stacy Lewis, she struggled today, that’s all there is to it. She lost both her matches, and even though she played better in the afternoon, it still wasn’t up to the world number 2’s standards. On the other side, Suzann Pettersen played some spectacular golf, winning both of her matches. She carried her teammate, Carlota Ciganda, in the afternoon, virtually beating Lexi Thompson and Stacy Lewis all by herself. However, give Carlota some credit. Her up-and-down par on the 15th hole today was the definition of clutch, halving the hole to keep the match at all square. And then there’s Michelle Wie, who never disappoints. Kudos to her for playing some spectacular golf this afternoon. As probably the only person in the whole world who agreed with Michelle being a captain’s pick, it was great to see her play well. She struck the ball crisply, and made some clutch putts down the stretch when they were needed. I’m hoping for a better showing tomorrow by Team USA.
