Lee Westwood Hit Twitter Last Night, And it Wasn’t Pretty

Let me start by saying that I’m a big Lee Westwood fan. His swing is unorthodox, but one of the best in the game and he seems like a great guy. However, his actions on Twitter yesterday night after his final round of the PGA Championship aren’t coming off as very likable. He literally went off yesterday, ripping on all his “haters” until his heart was content. Posts like “You minions need to live from the inside out rather than the outside in” and “Oh yeah you’re all quite now arnt you ! Come on ! Bring it on big boys! Yeah I thought not” will be seen on Lee’s Twitter page. Those quotes are only the start of his meltdown, with many more expletives in his more recent posts. He did apologize today on Twitter about his posts, expressing that he was out of character, but what’s done is done and can’t be taken back.

With how fast word travels today, Lee is really going to regret his posts. What puzzles me is why he would let his anger out on a social network. Say something verbally and it’s forgotten, but post it on something like Twitter or Facebook, and it is there forever, especially for a celebrity. I’m really hoping that Westwood’s image isn’t altered by these posts where he obviously wasn’t in the correct state of mind. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and one mistake shouldn’t defy him, but in this day and age, one mistake is the only thing that anyone remembers. He got his point across, but kind of crossed the line yesterday. I’m hoping he’ll move on from this, and let his golf do the talking from now on.
